IDAHO FALLS — The man involved in a police chase and wreck on Sunnyside Road Tuesday is a fugitive, according to the Idaho Department of Correction offender database.

He also has an extensive criminal history, according to court documents.

Felony burglary, grand theft, resisting officers and eluding police are a few of a wide variety of misdemeanor and felony crimes listed for Ramiro Meza Jr. in the Idaho Criminal Repository. The 31-year-old Idaho Falls man has had at least 42 Bonneville County criminal cases filed against him since 1998.

There is limited information about Meza available, but Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jeff Edwards said Meza has gone by a variety of false aliases. He also has been arrested in the past for providing false information to police.

His most recent major crime, prior to his arrest yesterday, was a grand theft arrest in March 2011. Idaho Falls Police report he stole $6,868 worth of furniture and electronics from Rent-A-Center in Idaho Falls.

He was found guilty of that felony crime and sentenced to a determinate prison sentence of two years and six months and five years indeterminate. He was also fined $1,175.50.

Criminal databases show he served time in prison between May 2012 and Dec. 2013. After he was released he failed to check in with his probation officers and authorities could not reach him. Meza was classified as an absconder, Edwards said, and declared a fugitive.

Meza was arrested Tuesday on a Idaho Department of Corrections no-bond parole warrant for violating his parole. He led police on a 15 minute car chase before Bonneville County Sheriff Deputies performed a PIT maneuver and rammed his vehicle into a fence in front of Riverbend Communications.

He was charged with assault or battery of law enforcement and attempting to elude police in a motor vehicle. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 5.

EastIdahoNews.com has requested additional details about Meza. We will post them as they become available.
