IDAHO FALLS — Fire crews responded to a four unit apartment in the 1300 block of Ashment Ave. just prior to 3:00 p.m. today.
Residents reported light smoke in their home and witnesses say smoke was coming from the roof of the building.
Firefighters were able to locate the fire and contain it to the bathroom area of one of the units.
“It is believed that the fire was started by a malfunctioning exhaust fan,” Batalion Chief Cody Anderson tells EastIdahoNews.com.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire right away but the bathroom ceiling had to be torn down to ensure flames did not spread.
Anderson stated that electrical wires were cut and that residents are not able to remain in their home until damages are repaired.
Only one of the units in the building was impacted by the fire.
