IDAHO FALLS — A UTV caught fire while in the back of a trailer Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. on Garfield Street near Central Park.
The Polaris RZR ignited when it was on a trailer attached to a parked truck outside of owner Misty Adams’ home.
Adams said she has no idea how the fire started. She said she heard popping noises, but she thought they were gun shots.
“I was in the kitchen making dinner, and the next thing I heard was an explosion … and (the RZR) was engulfed in flames,” Adams said.
Firefighters responded to and extinguished the fire. Officials say the cause of the fire is undetermined, and the case is under investigation.
Adams said neighbors are doing what they can to help investigators by checking their cameras to find a suspect if the fire was human caused.
The RZR was custom made with an orange, black and white design. Adams said it cost $20,000. She said the incident made her feel sick to her stomach.
