IDAHO FALLS — An office assistant was arrested after police said she stole thousands of dollars from her employer by writing checks to herself.

Ariel C. Murdock, 25, of Idaho Falls was arrested during a traffic stop Sunday morning. After running Murdock’s name through a local database, police discovered she had felony warrants for her arrest.

The warrants, for grand theft and forgery, were issued on March 18 stemming from an investigation into her allegedly embezzling money while employed at Wolverine Canyon Construction.

The Firth-based construction company contacted police in late December to report the theft.

Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said during the course of the investigation they discovered Murdock forged multiple checks to herself between October and December 2015 totalling between $46,000 to $60,000.

Murdock posted a $30,000 bond and is due in court today at 1 p.m.
