IDAHO FALLS — Police arrested a 35‐year‐old man this weekend for threatening another person with a firearm.
Corey Bates was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on two felony counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm within city limits.
Police reports show officers responded to the 1100 block of Canyon around 9:15 p.m. after it was reported Bates shot a gun and was threatening people, according to an Idaho Falls Police news release.
Officers say the Idaho Falls man got into an argument with an 18‐year‐old female at the residence. During the argument, Bates asked the female to leave. The female, along with her friend, left the residence.
The female reported to police that as she was standing outside with her friend, Bates came out of the residence with a handgun. Police say he yelled at them to leave and pointed the gun at them. He then shot the gun into the ground.
Bates is held on a $175,000 bond.
