IDAHO FALLS — EastIdahoNews.com was honored with two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards Tuesday by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) — the only news agency in east Idaho to be selected in the competition.
EastIdahoNews.com received the award for best website and best video feature for an online news organization.
The video feature selected was “Sgt. Marge is in Charge” – a story about a 90-year-old woman World War II Veteran living in Idaho Falls. The story was produced, shot, edited, and reported by Nate Eaton.
The Murrow awards recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television and online news organizations around the world. Award winners are separated into 14 regions with Idaho agencies competing against those in Alaska, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
“I am so proud of our team and humbled to receive these awards,” EastIdahoNews.com News Director Nate Eaton said. “Our main goal is to provide valuable news and information to our community and being recognized for doing that is a great honor.”
Three other Idaho news agencies, based in Boise, also received regional Murrow awards:
- KTVB-TV in Boise won in the use of video category in the small market television division.
- Idaho Public Television won in the news documentary category in the small market television division.
- KBSX Boise State Public Radio won five Murrow awards in the small market radio division.
RTDNA received more than 4,300 entries during the 2016 awards season, setting an all-time record.
654 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 14 categories, including overall excellence, breaking news, investigative reporting and website.
“We are delighted to honor the great work being done by local newsrooms,” RTDNA Chair Kathy Walker said. “Whether the winning entries come from a large team of journalists in a big city, or from a single, dedicated reporter in a small town, each demonstrates the value of exceptional journalism.”
Regional winners advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in May. National awards will be announced in June and presented at the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall in New York City on October 10, according to a news release.
