IDAHO FALLS – An Idaho Falls paramedic was recently thrust into the national Twitter spotlight after the NFL accidentally tagged him in a tweet instead of a football player.
Connor Cook works for the Idaho Falls Fire Department. His Twitter handle is @ConnorCook8. He has 231 followers.
Connor Cook, a football player from Michigan State, was drafted by the Oakland Raiders’ last week. His Twitter handle is @Connor_Cook03. He has nearly 40,000 followers.
During the draft announcements this weekend, the NFL inadvertently tagged firefighter Cook in a series of tweets – and he played along.
“I was sitting here at work and all the sudden my phone just starting vibrating off the hook,” Cook told EastIdahoNews.com. “It was fun for a while, but I figured I had better tweet them back and let them know they had the wrong guy.”
@NFL @RAIDERS I don't mean to be bother, but I'm not MSU Connor Cook. I'm firefighter paramedic Cook. Sorry y'all

@NFL @RAIDERS I'll still take a multimillion contract for medical standby for @RAIDERS

But as soon as tweeted they had the wrong guy though, others began tweeting Cook and he got even more attention.
“It got so much worse after I did that, I can’t even keep my phone charged for three hours now,” he said. “You know its all in good fun, maybe they will invite me to some pre-season trainings or games.”
This guy is the most exciting pick in the NFL draft this year!! Total package!

Keeping in the spirit of the mess up, the firefighter/paramedic even made a video showing him “training” for his new career.
“Nothing prepares you to be at work and you get the tweet that says you’ve been drafted number 100 overall,” Cook says in the video. “ And boy, what an honor for a boy from rural Idaho who has very minimal experience!”
Cook says he’s flattered by the attention and has even changed his profile description to: “a confused firefighter paramedic to an even more confused accidental NFL draft pick.”
Congrats to firefighter paramedic @ConnorCook8 on being congratulated by the NFL for being picked by the Raiders https://t.co/oZiWHj15oY
