IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls Power will continue to install LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, in streetlights throughout the city in order to cut energy use and costs.
Starting Sunday night, and continuing through early Thursday morning, about 80 lights along 17th Street will be converted from high-pressure sodium to LED, according to an Idaho Falls news release.
In order to minimize traffic disruptions, the work for this project will take place at night, from 9 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., and one lane of traffic will be blocked during much of the project.
After factoring in the rebate and the costs savings associated with the new lights, the project is expected to pay for itself in less than three years, according to the news release.
