RIGBY — An SUV landed in a canal along Yellowstone Highway while trying to avoid a collision Wednesday evening.
First responders tell EastIdahoNews.com the driver of the SUV was traveling down the highway north of Rigby, at about 5 p.m.
A vehicle in front of the SUV slowed to make a turn. The SUV driver, who has not been identified, swerved in an attempted to avoid the car and left the road. The SUV stopped in a canal full of water near 400 North Yellowstone Highway.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded along with Central Fire District.
A passerby stopped to assist the driver in the canal, breaking a window out with a rock. First responders tell EastIdahoNews.com the driver of the SUV remained inside of the vehicle until Central Fire District arrived on scene and was able to secure a ladder to the vehicle and safely remove the driver.
The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.
