ST. ANTHONY — Youth in the Fremont County 4-H program had the opportunity to showcase their animals at the Fremont County Fair over the weekend.
“4H has set up their program so that the fair is the final production. It’s where they have to show off their showmanship and the quality of their animals,” Fair Committee board member Melinda Rumsey said.
4-H contestant Chandra Potter said she spends the majority of the year training her horse for the horse show. “You have to practice a lot so your horse knows what you’re doing,” she said.
Those who qualify in livestock events at the county level will have the opportunity to advance their animals to the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot next month.
The food at the fair is also considered a prize among those who attend. Ramsey said over the last two years they have invited multiple vendors to feature their dishes. “We have, of course the normal burgers and hot dogs. We have one vendor who chooses a different variety of food to specialize in everyday,” Rumsey said.
Upcoming fairs include the Jefferson, and Madison County fairs. The Jefferson County fair is held Aug. 11 to Aug. 14. The Madison County Fair is Aug. 12 to Aug. 15. The Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot is set for Sept. 5 to Sept. 12.
