POCATELLO – Since Monday afternoon, 30 acres have been burned by the South Mink Fire.
The fire started in the Mink Creek drainage south of Pocatello. Firefighters say they expect to have the fire contained within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest later this afternoon.
Once the fire is contained, firefighting efforts will continue until the fire is completely out.
Firefighters are using Crystal Summit as a base location for camp and supply deliveries. Travelers on the Bannock Highway should expect an increase in traffic.
The East Idaho Interagency Fire Center has responded to 36 fires since the start of 2016. Those fires have consumed a total of 2,406 acres.
Out of those 36 fires, four were started by lightning.
The cause of the South Mink Fire is still under investigation.
