IDAHO FALLS – SUBWAY restaurants are partnering with the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission to provide sandwiches to 500 homeless and low-income individuals on their inaugural “Day of Giving.”
The “Day of Giving” will take place on Friday, June 19 at Greenbelt Park at 5:30 p.m.
“The Day of Giving is a great program because it allows local store owners to get out and do something that directly touches the life of a person in need in our community,” said Mike Manwill, local SUBWAY owner. “The Rescue Mission’s tireless efforts to help our city’s homeless is a noble challenge, and I am proud to partner with this fine organization.”
The Idaho Falls Rescue Mission serves 88 meals per day, and is now giving out nine family food boxes to low-income families each day. The Rescue Mission also houses more than 96 people per night in its emergency shelter and recovery program.
SUBWAY and the Rescue Mission also encourage the public to donate food and/or clothing before the event takes place. The Mission is especially in need of new socks, undergarments, and gently used or new tennis shoes for men and women.
“Summer is an all-time low for donations, and with Subway’s help we are able to provide relief to our homeless community from hunger,” said David McKinney, from Idaho Rescue Mission. “This generous donation from Subway will certainly go a long way toward helping us accomplish our mission.”
