IDAHO FALLS — The dead body found in a car at KJ’s Travel Center on Friday, Aug. 7, was not caused by suicide or foul play, officials said.

Sgt. Jeff Edwards of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said a health issue likely caused the death. The body of the 63-year-old Rexburg man showed no signs of injury.

Edwards said no autopsy will be performed, but the case is still under investigation.

Authorities have not released the name of the individual.

Edwards said employees at KJ’s Travel Center last saw the Rexburg man outside the store on Saturday, Aug. 1, six days prior to his being found dead.

It is unclear why the man was at KJ’s Travel Center.

Karen Shore, manager of KJ’s Travel Center said a trucker noticed the man lying in the car with his seat fully reclined Friday. He notified store employees.

Aerial photos of the scene show the deceased’s red vehicle parked near several semi-trucks along the perimeter of the parking lot.

Edwards said police have requested surveillance footage of the outside of the store during the time the body was there.

He said police hope to discover exactly when the car was parked. Deputies estimate the body was in the car at the scene for between 3 to 6 days.

Edwards said the man was parked in the north east corner of the truck parking lot of the business. He said the placement of the car might be why the man went unnoticed.

“Most of the employees — while they’re working — their concentration is on customers and pumps,” Edwards said. “They wouldn’t walk the perimeter area of the truck stop.”
