POCATELLO– Randy Ted Jordan, 45, was sentenced yesterday to 120 months in prison for bank robberies committed in Idaho and Utah.
Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Jordan to pay $19,813 in restitution, and to serve three years of supervised release, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
The Chubback man pleaded guilty on May 28.
Jordan entered the Idaho State University Credit Union in Chubbuck, Idaho on July 26, 2014.
He entered and exited the bank three times before he returned and walked behind the counter where the employees work, according to the news release. Jordan lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun, which was tucked into his waistband.
Jordan demanded the money from the drawers, and two tellers removed the money from the drawers and gave it to him.
Jordan removed the gun from his waistband and took the tellers to another room where he tied their hands with zip ties. He then left the bank.
Jordan entered the Bank of Utah in Ogden, Utah on Aug. 7, and threatened the tellers with a bomb.
He placed a device on the counter of a teller window and said, “This is a bomb, give me all your money. If I press a button on my cell phone, it will go off,” according to the news release.
Jordan had a cell phone in his hand, and the device was about the size of a cellphone, wrapped in gray or silver tape, similar to duct tape.
He told all three tellers to give him the money from their drawers, which they did, and then left the bank.
Jordan also committed bank robberies in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and West Jordan, Utah, which were all considered in Judge Winmill’s sentencing.
