BOISE — An eastern Idaho man who serving time in the Idaho Maximum Security Institution for felony aggravated battery was found dead Tuesday morning.
An IMSI staff member found Roger Vincent Arellano, 62, unresponsive in his cell around 5:20 a.m.
The Idaho Department of Correction has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the death at the men’s prison south of Boise.
Arellano was in prison after stabbing another man in Firth in 2014, which led to a three-hour standoff with police that ended peacefully. (See more on the incident here and his sentencing here.)
According to prison records, his sentence was to end in 2024, and he was eligible for parole next year. His next parole hearing date was next month.
