RIRIE — Firefighters continue to monitor hotspots from a haystack fire that burned for nearly 12 hours overnight.
Ririe and Rigby fire stations of the Central Fire District responded to a burning haystack across from 164 North 4600 East around 10 p.m.
“Right now we’re investigating the cause of the fire. The neighbors reported it and upon our arrival, we found the haystack a blaze,” Assistant Fire Chief Carl Anderson told EastIdahoNews.com.
Anderson said farmers and crew members worked together to get large haystacks moved from the area to prevent the fire from spreading.
“This is a stack yard for a couple folks here. There’s a lot of hay out here. (There was) potential to have hundreds of tons of hay here burned down,” Anderson said.
Anderson said firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to one area which burned about 75 tons of hay. Crews were able to leave the scene around 9 a.m. Monday.
No injuries were reported.
