Ammon Fire Department personnel, along with volunteers from the American Red Cross and local cub scouts recently went door to door in Ammon neighborhoods offering to inspect residential smoke alarms.

Forty-one homes were serviced throughout the day. Some 116 new smoke alarms were installed and 32 smoke detectors had their batteries replaced.

Crews would replace batteries on alarms that were less than five years old. Smoke detectors that were not functioning or that were older than five years were replaced.

Crews also installed smoke detectors in homes that were without.

Families who received the services also were taught some fire safety tips.

The American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has installed nearly half a million smoke alarms nationally since they launched in 2014.
