IDAHO FALLS — Students living in both Idaho Falls-area school districts will head back to school next week.

Here’s what students and parents needs to know.

Idaho Falls District 91

To help with back-to-school, Idaho Falls District 91 will host a series of upcoming events for parents to help them and students get ready for school.

School begins Monday, Aug. 31, for grades K-9 and Sept. 2 for grades 10-12. Start times for schools vary, but the district will continue its late-start Mondays for a third year. The late-start program gives teachers time to collaborate with one another about how best to help students, spokeswoman Margaret Wimborne said.

District 91 elementary schools also will hold back-to-school nights Wednesday, Aug 26, where parents and students can meet with teachers, find classrooms and drop off supplies. Parents also can learn about the curricula and how to get involved. The events will have an open house format, so parents are encouraged to come when they can. Events times are available on the school website.

The district website is a great resource for parents, said Wimborne. Parents can visit the website to sign up for Power School, text messages and get information like bus schedules.

Bonneville Joint School District 93

Bonneville Joint School District 93 also is preparing for students.

The 2015-2016 school year begins Monday, Aug. 31, with some 12,000 students enrolled in the district.

Schools will be holding back-to-school nights at different times, which are listed below. Superintendent Chuck Shackett said back-to-school nights are a valuable experience for new students and parents. D93 teachers said when students come the first day, the transition is much easier if they have attended back-to-school night. The events will follow different format at each school, which can be found at the district’s website.

District 93 also is excited to offer Right-at-School, an after-school program that includes fitness games, a healthy snack, daily enrichment activities and time to complete homework. Buildings are rented from the school so the program can take place right after school. The program partners with Brigham Young University-Idaho to allow future teachers to spend time working with students on homework and other academic skills. Parents also have the ability to voice their opinions on the program and add new programs if there is a strong enough desire for them.

District 93’s Technical Careers High School also is launching a new emergency medical technician program this fall and for the first time in a decades, students will be able to take agriculture classes.

“All our programs are in areas that are employable,” Shackett said. “The school is excited to see a interest in farming and the ability to partner with local farmers to help students. Agriculture has deep roots in this community and we are thrilled to add it to the growing list of programs offered at our Technical Careers High School.”
