The following is a news release from the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony.
IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Youth Symphony will begin its 2016-2017 season on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Idaho Falls Civic Auditorium when music director Kendell Nielsen leads the ensemble in an inspiring and riveting concert.
Featuring patriotic works by American composers, “We the People: Music of Modern Patriots” showcases Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Mack Wilberg, Peter J. Wilhousky, John Philip Sousa, and others.
The full orchestra of more than 100 young musicians comes together under the baton of conductors Kendell Nielsen & Ariel Loveland for a concert of folk tunes and melodies that portray an American musical heritage. The patriotic concert will feature a transformative ending as the Hillcrest High School Chorus under the direction of Camille Blackburn joins the Youth Symphony.
“These musicians have worked really hard to polish up the final product,” said music director Kendell Nielsen. “The Overture to West Side Story and the Four Dance Episodes from Copland’s ballet Rodeo portray our country’s American spirit with stirring rhythms and dramatic dynamics. All the different styles within the pieces convey the message of what makes our country’s history remarkable.”
Ariel Loveland, assistant conductor of the Youth Symphony, stated in a recent interview, “We have something very special going on here. Our kids put forth so much energy playing the pieces in rehearsal. Combined with the countless hours they spend practicing the music, the end result will be a beautiful concert that I am excited to hear.”
The Idaho Falls Symphony Society has announced that the Youth Symphony concerts will now have free admission for all ages. Carrie Shull, a Symphony board member, remarked, “The level of playing and determination of the students is unbelievable. And by offering free admission, we are removing any financial hurdle for members of the community to come and share in the magic of what these kids are capable of producing.”
Join us for an unforgettable concert on December 1st at 7:30pm. For more information, visit www.ifsymphony.org.
