A horse that was stranded on a cliff near Portneuf Gap Tuesday morning has been rescued and is safe.
Bannock County Sheriff’ Lt. Dan Argyle tells EastIdahoNews.com a private citizen brought in a backhoe that was able to help in rescue efforts.

POCATELLO — Multiple agencies are trying to rescue a horse currently stranded on a cliff near Portneuf Gap.
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen tells EastIdahoNews.com the draft horse fell from a higher area onto lava rocks along North Fort Hall Road. The animal has no way of getting down from the rocks.

“We can’t just leave him out there so we’re trying our best to get him down,” Nielsen says.
Bannock Sheriff deputies, Search and Rescue crews and workers with the Road and Bridge department are currently using ropes to assist the horse, which has been stranded on the rocks for over an hour.
