IDAHO FALLS — A man who’s known for contorting himself while playing the piano kicked off the Worldwide Day of Service in Idaho Falls Wednesday.
Jason Lyle Black, award-winning piano player and entertainer, joined with performers around the world to promote a day of service on Dec. 1. The day of service event is in conjunction with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 25 days of service campaign. Online influencers, however, are trying to launch the The Worldwide Day of Service as a separate event.
“I’m joining a bunch of other YouTubers, bloggers and influencers around the country and around the world today getting everyone excited for tomorrow’s day of service,” Black said.
Lyle did a mini-concert and played Christmas classics at the Grand Teton Mall to spread the holiday cheer. Known on YouTube as the ‘Backwards Piano Man,’ Black played several songs with his hands behind his back.
“We’re just excited to encourage people in the Christmas spirit to do some service for somebody else. That could be something as simple as just a smile (at) a stranger, or visiting someone who’s sick,” Black said.
The Worldwide Day of Service encourages everyone to share their light with others and perform acts of service in any way they’d like.
People are encouraged to post their acts of service Dec. 1 on social medial platforms using the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD.
