IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man took lewd photos of a teenage girl while she slept, police say.

The girl told police Jason Richey, 38, left the room when she woke up, but not before he took the photos.

Jason Richey, 38, was charged and booked in the Bonneville County on Feb. 27 on one felony count of sexual battery of child by making photographic or recordings of minor 16 to 17 years of age.

Richey was held on a $50,000 bond, but after making his first court appearance was released with no bond to pre-trial services.

According to court documents, on Oct. 27 a 16-year-old girl told police Richey had taken pictures of her a few nights before.

The girl said she woke up to Richey taking pictures of her. She also told police Richey tried to take off her underwear for the photos.

After she woke up, Richey left the room, according to court records.

Court records show the mother of the girl refused to fully cooperate with police, but did agree to turn over an iPad that was believed to have been used to take the pictures.

Police later discovered that the iPad had been factory reset, clearing the contents. Police have not recovered the photos.

Richey is due back in court later this month for a preliminary hearing.
