BLACKFOOT — Police say Melonie Smith, 48, shot a man execution style in mid-February. Now, Smith has been charged with misdemeanor battery for alleged involvement in a jailhouse fight.
According to court records, on March 31 Smith was involved in a fight within the Bingham County Jail. Video footage shows Smith punching a woman at least five times in the face.
According to a deputy’s report, the altercation started when Smith and another inmate, Gabrielle Wadda, got into a verbal disagreement.
Wadda is held in the Bingham County Jail on two felony charges, possession of a controlled substance and a persistent violator enhancement.
Both Wadda and Smith told the deputy similar stories: The two woman got into an argument, at one point Wadda grabbed Smith by the throat, Smith retaliated by punching Wadda in the face.
Smith is held in the Bingham County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and felony destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence in a murder 30-year-old David Davis.
