DRIGGS — The Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office are looking into a tip that a person may try to bring a gun to a Teton County school.
Teton School District 401 Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme put out a statement Thursday saying that he, Teton High School Principal Frank Mello, and the assistant high school principal met with the sheriff and his staff after someone used the anonymous tips link on the district website.
The tip read:
“I can’t say who. But someone is planning on bringing a gun to school next Monday. I don’t know/ think they’re being serious, but this person seems to surprise me sometimes. So I never know.”
Sheriff Tony Liford said that he had no comment on the investigation, since it is ongoing, other than to say that the sheriff’s office is not concerned by the tip at this time, but will have deputies present at the schools as a precaution.
As an aside, Liford said that parents who have guns in the home should always have them properly secured and stored.
The Superintendent’s Full Statement
A safety concern has been reported to the school district through the anonymous tips link on our website. The tip states:
“I can’t say who. But someone is planning on bringing a gun to school next Monday. I don’t know/ think they’re being serious, but this person seems to surprise me sometimes. So I never know.”
The superintendent, high school principal, and assistant high school principal met with the Teton County Sheriff and his staff to review this issue. We are taking this matter seriously and will have law enforcement present at the schools on Monday.
We appreciate this was shared and would hope parents discuss this matter with their children, and encourage them to report any concern they have to an adult.
Sincerely,
Monte Woolstenhulme, Superintendent
