IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Republican Committeeman Damond Watkins will serve as campaign chairman for Gubernatorial candidate Tommy Ahlquist.
Ahlquist made the announcement Thursday and said having Watkins serve as chairman “is a great honor.”
“He is widely respected in the Republican Party and has served in leadership positions in the Idaho Republican Party for over fifteen years,” Ahlquist said in a news release. “His conservative credentials are unmatched and his deep understanding of our state will prove to be a tremendous asset to me.”

Watkins has been actively involved in Idaho and national politics for years. In April, President Donald Trump appointed Watkins to serve as a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.
“With four good men seeking the highest office of our state, I have studied this race out with the deepest due diligence,” Watkins said in a statement. “Tommy Ahlquist is a man that I hold in the highest regard. He has earned my trust and for the first time in my political career, I am making an endorsement of a candidate I believe would be one of the best Governors the state of Idaho has ever seen.”
