ST. ANTHONY — What started as a controlled burn at Sand Creek in Fremont County has grown out of control, forcing the evacuation of several campers Thursday morning.

Idaho Fish and Game started the burn in the Blue Creek area north of the Sand Creek Pond and say it has grown significantly.

The South Fremont Fire Department, North Fremont Fire Department, St. Anthony Ambulance, BLM, Idaho Fish and Game along with the Fremont County Sheriff’s office are currently on scene.

Camping grounds in the area have been evacuated as the fire continues to spread to the northeast, according to Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries.

The Sheriff’s office has been contacting owners of property in that area to evacuate. No injuries have been reported and it’s unclear how many campers were forced to leave.

Every year Idaho Fish and Game perform a controlled burn on the marshes to rid of old vegetation.
