Idaho Falls Police report that officers responded to a reported hostage situation at a residence in the 2600 block of West 17th South near Bellin Road around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The reporting party told police that a 41-year-old man was holding a woman against her will in a bedroom with a gun, according to a police news release.
For the public’s safety, Idaho Falls Police issued a Code Red alert to residents within a quarter mile asking them to stay in place in their homes and away from door and windows.
Police ended their response after the man voluntarily came out of the house. The case is under investigation.

IDAHO FALLS — Police have not yet released any information regarding an alleged hostage situation at South Bellin Raod and West 17th South near the fire station.
Multiple witnesses observed Idaho Fall Police Department SWAT teams and dogs in the area starting around 4 p.m. Residents were told to stay in their homes and traffic was diverted from the area.
Neighbors tell EastIdahoNews.com that police took a suspect into custody and he was led away in handcuffs shortly after 5 p.m.
