IDAHO FALLS — Instead of using a bed sheet for a back drop or a storage unit for practice space, a local business is now offering musicians and photographers a spot to express their creativity at affordable rates.
The Ultimate Outlet in Ammon gives up and coming artists a chance to take their passion to the next level with the latest equipment and studio spaces.
“We’re just trying to make a creative environment,” recording engineer Tim Birdsong said.
The outlet offers everything from insulation bays for recording to backdrops and lighting for photo shoots. They also have musical instruments and a camera available for use.
Local photographer Amy Schneck said this could be a great resource for artists who don’t have enough equipment to practice and develop their talents.
“I think having a space like this available to more people will showcase so much more of what people around here can do — musically and photographically,” Schneck said.
Artist Tyler Price also feels like it would be a beneficial for people who may not be able to invest large amounts of money into what they love.
“It would be a great outlet for the middleman. I love music and I’d love to get to a point where I could record my own music, but I’m not ready to invest a lot,” Price said,
Along with its up-to-date venue, every Tuesday the Ultimate Outlet opens its doors for an open mic night where local artists are welcome to perform. Birdsong says new performers come every week.
Owners Patty Trujillo and Norm Christensen say overall they want to provide a setting where people can come and and enjoy local music.
“There’s just not anything in Idaho Falls that is unique like this where we can bring young and old artists in,” Trujillo said.
According to Christensen, the city doesn’t seem to offer venues where families can experience live music.
The spots that feature musicians often seem to be bars or pub settings – places with age restrictions of 21 and older. This new location aims to offer something for all ages.
“It’s like a giant living room,” Christensen said. “The Ultimate Outlet poses the ideal spot to relax, feel at home, and not be pressured for sales.”
The photography studio, and recording booths are available for $25/hour, for full use of equipment and space. Contact the Ultimate Outlet at 208-524-2722 for information on booking.
