IDAHO FALLS – Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. Sunday and the Idaho Falls Fire Department is using the time change as a reminder to change batteries in your smoke detectors.

“You should put new batteries in your smoke detectors every six months,” Battalion Chief Cody Anderson said. “When a house fire starts, you may literally have seconds before you’re overcome with smoke and a smoke detector could save your life.”

The fire department often sees an increase in fires during the winter months as folks use furnaces, candles, fireplaces and space heaters. Flammable items around Christmas trees can also cause fires.

“If you don’t have a smoke detector, we’ll be happy to come and install one for you,” Anderson said.
