REXBURG — City officials have issued a statement confirming it is safe for residents to drink Rexburg water.
Earlier on Friday, Oct. 30, Eastern Idaho Public Health District issued a precautionary water advisory for food establishments such as restaurant or grocery stores.
“There is no need to boil water in the City of Rexburg at this time,” the Rexburg statement reads. “…the temporary precautions apply only to food handlers, hospitals and other commercial service providers where water is used in the preparation of their product.”
City Attorney Stephen Zollinger told Local News 8, the advisory was issued “after high counts of coliform bacteria were discovered slightly above food-code levels during routine tests.”
The advisory applies to food vendors, but not the general public, because vendors are held to a higher standard.
