A look at east Idaho’s Veteran’s Day events

IDAHO FALLS — A variety of events will be held in eastern Idaho to honor veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Some local events were previously held on Monday, Nov. 9. and are not listed here.

The following Veteran’s Day events announcements were sent to EastIdahoNews.com. If you know of a Veteran’s Day event that is not shown below, please email nate@eastidahonews.com.

IDAHO FALLS:

Eagle Rock Middle School in Idaho Falls School District 91 is celebrating Veteran’s Day with a “Walk In The Footsteps of a Soldier” event from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Veterans’ Day.

Every student will receive a card with information about a soldier and then relive that soldier’s experiences by visiting a simulated boot camp, special training, deployment to a state, fighting in a war and/or coming home. In addition, students will have the chance to hear from veterans representing different branches of the armed services.

Hillcrest High School in Bonneville Joint School District 93 is holding a Veterans Day Assembly in the school’s gymnasium at 2800 Owen Street in Ammon. The event, to recognize and honor veterans, begins at 10:45 a.m. until noon.

Holy Rosary School is honoring local veterans with a musical Veteran’s Day program at 2 p.m. Wednesday, The students will sing patriotic music and the program includes a 6th grade drum-line! The school has invited veterans from the community. After the program there will be cookies and questions with the students and veterans.

REXBURG:

The Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce and city of Rexburg will hold its seventh annual Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony at noon on Wednesday at the Rexburg Tabernacle on 51 North Center. The free event will include playing of the National Anthem, a wreath laying, a keynote speaker, a moment of silence and a 21 gun salute.

SWAN VALLEY:

The American Legion is holding a Veteran’s Tribute at Veterans Memorial Highway 26 in Irwin. The event will continue at the American Legion Hall on Stolenberg Lane in Swan Valley. Refreshments will be served and attendees can participate in a raffle. Tickets are $5. For information contact Tony Kopp at (208) 483-0411 or Lou Logue at (208) 270-1470.

POCATELLO:

Irving Middle School in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 will hold a program at 10:30 a.m. with veterans home and assisted living residents as guests. The event features guest speaker Marv McCall, and music from IMS band and choir.

Hawthorne Middle School will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday and then the National Guard will set up obstacle courses outside for students.

Chubbuck Elementary will hold an assembly at 1:15 p.m.

Staff and students at Ellis Elementary in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 will assemble for flag raising and the playing of Taps by the VFW at 8:25 a.m

Highland High School students will assemble at 8:45 a.m. in front of the school for a presentation of the flag then proceed to the gym for a Veterans Day Assembly. The guest speaker is Freddie Flynn. Staff and students may invite veterans.

Greenacres Elementary will hold an assembly at 9:00 a.m. with third graders singing patriotic songs.

Wilcox Elementary in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 will hold a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. and an announcement first thing in the morning.

Century High School will hold its annual Veteran’s Day Assembly at 8:35 a.m. It will include the raising of the flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, a 21-gun salute, Taps, posting of colors, the national anthem, a guest speaker and a patriotic performance by the school band.

New Horizon High School will hold a special flag ceremony at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence and then show a video from a field trip to the Veteran’s home. A NHHS student will sing the Star Spangled Banner.

Pocatello High School will hold a Veteran’s Day assembly between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. It will include a presentation of the colors, the national anthem, and a video presentation.
