IDAHO FALLS — With school ending this week, the state of Idaho is concerned about what kids will be eating for lunches now.

Idaho is serving children meals and snacks during the summer that are free of charge in schools, parks and other community settings to reach children in low-income families. The aim is to help children when it comes to summer nutrition. A report from the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) shows Idaho is in the top ten when it comes to feeding low-income children once school is out for the summer. The Gem State reached about 23 percent of the students who normally receive free or reduce-priced lunches last year, and slightly higher numbers are expected this summer. The national average was 16 percent.

EastIdahohNews.com Reporter Mark Richardson spoke with local school leaders about the program and has the story in the clip above.
