IDAHO FALLS — The Kingston Plaza will become a winter wonderland Friday, Dec. 4, for the All I Want for Christmas Expo.
Organizers were getting ready for Santa and his helpers Thursday.
“At the end of today it will be ready to go, but we have 150 vendors coming in this afternoon, and then after they’re all set up we’ll be ready for the public,” said Jay Dye, Riverbend Communications special project director Thursday morning.
The event sponsored by Snake River Rapid Wash and organized by Riverbend Communications. It is in its fifth year and will feature tons of activities and giveaways. It will even have live reindeer.
The reindeer barn will have two reindeer in here,” Dye said. “You’ll get a chance to have free photos taken with (them).”
The event will also feature some colossal culinary treats. Each year local cake designer Desi Richards and her business partner Dianne Mickelsen showcase creative gingerbread houses. Richards owns Desi’s Custom Cakes in Shelley.
“We had a little Santa’s village last year it was a lot of fun,” Richards said. “We did really good last year but this year we’ve made it bigger and better.”
She said they’ve invested at least 80 hours into it so far, and the gingerbread house will be about 3 feet high.
“This year we set it up like a doll house-type thing,” Richards said. “It’s really fun — lots of candy.”
Richards said she’s looking forward to the children’s reaction to their creation.
“When those little kids look at it and it brings in that excitement (for) them that’s my favorite part.” she said.
