RIGBY – Construction will close the Del Rio Bridge on the U.S. 20 business loop, east of St. Anthony, Tuesday and Wednesday (July 14-15), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Crews will resurface approaches to the new bridge, constructed last year. Some asphalt pavement, placed on the approaches last year, failed to meet specifications and will be removed at the contractor’s expense. The contractor will then place a new layer of pavement. The work was not completed last year due to weather concerns.
Roads leading to the bridge will remain open, although Sand Creek Road, west of the river, will close for a few hours while crews work on its intersection with the business loop.
The sportsman’s access northeast of the bridge will be closed during construction.
Portable electronic message boards have been placed on U.S. 20 to notify the public of next week’s bridge closure.
Last summer, ITD replaced the steel Del Rio Bridge (circa 1931) with a wider and longer concrete structure.
The department awarded the $2.46-million contract for the project to D.L. Beck Inc., of Rexburg.
