IDAHO FALLS – Many of you have noticed and some have asked why there aren’t Christmas lights in the big trees along the Snake River this year.
In years past, trees up and down Memorial Drive were decorated with lights from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
This year that’s not the case.
“It is due to cost issues because we had to have city staff hang the lights,” Idaho Falls spokeswoman Kerry McCullough, tells EastIdahoNews.com. “It was also because of safety concerns as the trees are very large and hang over the river.”
McCullough says putting lights on all the trees was an annual tradition until a few years ago, when Memorial Drive was redesigned.
“We are still decorating the smaller trees and putting bows on light poles along Memorial Drive as well as the round-about,” McCullough says. “We also have the new Festival of Lights at Freeman Park display.”
