A man arrested in Bonneville County for meth was sentenced to 22 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Uriel Jose Ortega, 26, of Twin Falls, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Ortega had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in June. He later tried unsuccessfully to withdraw the guilty plea, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson said in a news release.

Ortega was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by Idaho State Police in Bonneville County on July 10, 2014. Troopers found more than 1.3 kilograms of meth and numerous firearms.

Investigators later found that Ortega had been distributing large amounts of meth to Montana from Idaho for an extended period of time. During the investigation, Ortega threatened witnesses and a law enforcement officer, according to the news release.

Also arrested in the traffic stop was Kimberly Rose, who has been charged with various weapons and drug charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine. She has a change of plea hearing scheduled for January.

The case was investigated by multiple law enforcement and prosecuting agencies in Idaho and Montana.
