REXBURG — Brigham Young University-Idaho is advising its students and faculty of a nonspecific threat of harm on the Rexburg campus.

The Rexburg Police Department reports an unidentified local individual posted two threatening posts on Yik Yak, a social media site, early this morning.

The first message, posted online at 1:42 a.m., read; “BYU-Idaho is in trouble tomorrow don’t go to school.”

Shortly afterwards, another post read, “This is not a joke your classmates or you will be hurt.”

Law enforcement officials are unsure how credible the threat is, but they have launched a full investigation.

“We’ve got to treat this seriously,” Capt. Randy Lewis said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to track down the individual that did this.”

It is finals week at BYU-Idaho and classes are continuing open as usual. But campus officials are advising everyone on campus to be vigilant and report anything unusual to 911.
