The following is a news release from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

RIRIE — On Sunday, January 10 conservation officers observed a location along the River Road on the South Fork of the Snake River about a ½ mile downstream from the Heise Bridge where a deer was illegally killed and taken. Officers were able to follow a blood trail that dripped from the poacher’s vehicle for 7.1 miles before the trail went dry. Officers collected forensic evidence at the scene and determined the deer was shot sometime in either the late hours of Saturday, January 9th or early on the 10th.

The location of the incident was on the north side of the road between the Heise Bridge and the Cress Creek Hiking Trail. Evidence at the scene indicated the killing of the animal was not related to a roadkill situation and that deer was loaded whole at the scene before being taken away. Anyone who might observed a suspicious vehicle in the area is encouraged to contact the Idaho Department of Fish & Game.

Anyone with information can contact the IDFG Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) Hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for rewards.
