POCATELLO — Firefighters spotted a stolen car Tuesday, Jan. 19, leading to the arrest of a Pocatello man.
Daniel Kelley, 25, stole a car that was warming up, Dianne Brush of Pocatello Police Department told EastIdahoNews.com.
The owner called police after finding the car was gone.
As dispatchers notified patrol units of the stolen vehicle, firefighters on a city fire engine heard the call and radioed to dispatch that they believed they were behind the stolen car.
They confirmed the license plate with dispatchers.
Police responded to the area. They were able to locate the vehicle and took Kelley into custody.
Officers found he had a semi-automatic .22-caliber pistol.
Kelley was scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 11 for possession of a controlled substance, a charge stemming from April 2015, but failed to appear. A bench warrant had been issued for his arrested.
As of Wednesday, Kelley was being held without bond in the Bannock County Detention Center on charges of misdemeanor theft, felony possession of a firearm, misdemeanor driving without privileges and a felony warrant.
