RIRIE -— Volunteers at the Ririe Senior Citizens Center have worked for years to give back to the community and now members of a local charity feel it’s time to give back to the center.
The Mountain View Charity presented a $10,000 grant to the center Friday morning.
“This particular donation will help with the physical part of the building,” Jim Wilson, president of the Ririe Senior Citizens Center, told EastIdahoNews.com. “It helps us free the funds up to do other things to provide things for the community.”
Mimi Taylor, the chairperson for Mountain View Charity, and Bonneville County Commissioner Dave Radford played major roles in helping the center receive funds.
“(Volunteers) aren’t getting paid but they have all these needs and they’re donating hours to work here,” Taylor said. “They serve a special vulnerable population in older adults and they just have a wonderful mission here at the senior center.”
Radford said he knows the money is going toward real needs and is glad to help the center in gaining additional resources.
“There are needs out there that are real and this kind of event is heart warming,” Radford said. “There’s a lot of veterans here that watch out for each other. I’m just proud to be apart of it.”
The money will go toward various projects including electrical and lighting work and installing a walkway.
“We are also improving our food preparation area,” Wilson said. “We have a food prep room that’s off of our kitchen. We’re going to do a vegetable and fruit sink in there plus the plumbing for that and some additional shelving.”
The Senior Citizens Center serves over 100 meals twice a week, makes food deliveries, hosts a weekly food bank, and holds classes for seniors. Wilson said receiving the extra funds is essential in moving their mission forward.
“Something of this size really moves things a head for us,” Wilson said. “We’ve had a need and have had it for a while so without those funds we wouldn’t be able to do (these) projects.”
