IDAHO FALLS – Police were called to the Grand Teton Mall Thursday night for a report of a shoplifter at Macys.
While officers were on their way, they were told the suspect had a loaded firearm and was threatening to shoot himself in the parking lot outside of Sears, Idaho Falls police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said.
Police say at one point the man went back inside the mall and security told officers they did not see a weapon.
When police arrived, they found the suspect near Old Navy. He was taken into custody without incident and did not have a firearm, Hansen said.
The man was arrested for petty theft and disturbing the peace.
