IDAHO FALLS — Authorities are looking for a man who stole multiple wallets during a presentation by the Idaho State Police in Ririe last month.

Not long after the thefts, the alleged wallet thief used stolen financial cards to make purchases from Ammon and Idaho Falls Walmart stores, including the purchase of a green kayak.

The man has not been identified by police as of Friday, Nov. 6. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also declined to comment on the case as the investigation is ongoing.

Victim Lacy Averill said she didn’t realize her wallet was stolen from her car until the day after the ISP presentation. The presentation was held at a Mormon church building in Ririe during the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 6.

“If my car (was) ever safe, it would (have been) that night (at the church), but unfortunately there’s dishonest people,” Averill said.

Deborah Criddle said her 16-year-old son also had his wallet stolen from his vehicle from at the same event.

“Very early one morning he just asked me if I knew where his wallet was at,” Criddle said, “I didn’t know where his wallet was, so he started to retrace steps and figured there was no way it was anything but stolen.”

Cash, credit cards, a Social Security card, and more were taken. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is working with the victims and they hope to get justice.

“At the end of the day you feel violated you feel like somebody’s trespassed into your world,” Criddle said. “So whoever it is, whether it’s $50 or $10 million — they need to be punished for what they did.”

Averill says she wants to remind others to lock their cars and monitor their possessions even though the community is usually safe.

If you have any information about the man in the photos above, please contact the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 529-1375, or the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 745-9210.
