BLACKFOOT — The death of a man who led Blackfoot police on a “slow speed chase” on Halloween has been ruled a suicide.
The Critical Incident Team for Southeast Idaho determined Jesus Guadalupe Contreras, 30, died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Blackfoot police said the team was called in to investigate the death to provide transparency to the investigation, according to a news release.
Contreras was a suspect in a Bannock County domestic violence case and a Blackfoot hit-and-run case.
In October, the Blackfoot Police Department told EastIdahoNews.com that Contreras’ vehicle was stopped as part of a police investigation Saturday, Oct. 31.
Contreras drove away from authorities. Blackfoot and Fort Hall police, and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office pursued him from Blackfoot to Broncho Road near Fort Hall. During the chase, the speed of Contreras’ vehicle gradually decreased.
A witness told EastIdahoNews.com she saw 11 police vehicles chasing a car going 10 to 15 mph.
When the vehicle slowly came to a stop, officers approached and found Contreras dead in the drivers seat.
It is unclear when Contreras shot himself.
The Blackfoot Police Department has decline to comment further on this case.
